The shortcomings of the tv-screen in cultural communication

Kurt Blaukopf

pp. 317-336

Otto Neurath attempted to use pictures (ISOTYPE) for educational purposes. He was mainly concerned with printed pictures, although in his later writings he also referred to the use of film. At the time, television did not yet play an important role in visual communication. There can be little doubt that Neurath would also have tried and used TV, if he had lived long enough to witness the emergence of this medium of communication.
