Inner (time-)consciousness

Dan Zahavi

pp. 319-339

The aim of the article is to examine the relation between Husserl’s notion of inner consciousness (self-consciousness) and his theory of inner time-consciousness. Not only will it be argued that the distinction between reflective and pre-reflective self-consciousness is crucial if we are to understand Husserl’s analysis of time, but it will also be argued that the latter analysis contains Husserl’s most profound contribution to an understanding of the pre-reflective self-manifestation of subjective life.
